BODY WORLDS & The Mirror of Time sounds like a Harry Potter book title gone horribly wrong. And there’s something very wrong with Gunther von Hagens’ latest display of skinless dead bodies at the 02 – two of them are having sex.
A treat for necrophiliacs everywhere, perhaps, but for the average punter, this might cause a little bit of sick.
Von Hagens justifies the corpses copping off by telling the press that the ‘people’ concerned gave their consent, and he told German newspaper Bild that: “death and sex are both taboo topics. I’m bringing them together. Death belongs to life,” adding that “without sex no life would exist.” Thanks for that, we never knew, Mr. Von Hagens.
Some of his previous Body Works exhibits, which have toured the world, have depicted the preserved bodies doing everything from playing cards to riding a corpse horse. Perhaps the next stage is to feature bodies having sex with animals or small children?
Or maybe an interactive visitor installment, where punters can grope the exhibits?
The show apparently features 200 real specimens with a special focus on health, wellbeing and the ageing process. London radio station LBC is asking its listeners to vote on whether they think corpse sex is dodgy or not, with voters then receiving 50% off a ticket to go and see if they get turned on or not.
It does seem that if enough people are appalled by the display, it will be pulled. But if you like it, you might want to go and partake in a meal at one of the event’s food partners – Yo Sushi. Ahem.

Got given a ticket for this today, so went along after work.
Good display and yep the sexy bits are fenced off and guarded to stop ’ minors’ from entering. Only one body2body exhibit and a couple of flat ones, sort of a slice of life?
The giraffe was good, bloody big one at that, thing that came to mind when I saw it was – how the hell did they get that in here?
more so if, like the other exhibits, the giraffe was plastisised, they must have used a shed load of plastic on the skinned and ‘more open than usual’ giraffe.
