Ocado, Sainsbury's To You or Tesco Direct. Which?

Do they turn up when they are supposed to? Do they flog you stuff you wouldn’t have bought if you could have seen it? Do they offer good value for money? Do they cock things up?

On one occasion Sainsbury’s dumped a veritable dinner party load of food on us which we had not ordered. Phone them up as soon as we found out but it was too late – they could not take it back, so they said, once delivered. Our gain. Ocado dropped off several items by mistake but returned a while later and asked for them back which we were happy to do. Ocado are always on time or early – and if early they phone first. Sainsbury’s have some bizarre substitions if you first choice is not available. Tesco’s are a bit erratic in many respects.

Just my opinion.

So come on. Which ‘to your door’ supermarket service is the best? Which is the worst?

!. Tesco – good timing and delivery, also offer a no bag delivery.

2. Odaco – good timing and delivery.

3. Sainsburys – timing okayish, often late and delivery person not a happy chappie, no longer use them, too many deliveries of rotten food !! Like three in a month.

Also – those loyalty cards – if more than one card (one per partner) Tesco put them together so each can be used, Sainburys don’t, I have over 2000 points on mine but other half’s card had 50 and Sainsburys won’t accept my points from her card.

Waitrose. Ocado. Whatever they’re called. Brilliant. Always on time, and good quality food too.

have stopped doing this since sainsburys let me down on the friday before christmas. not amused and not got round to sorting it out with any of the others.

i do find i spend more when walking round the supermarket. but like choosing my own fresh produce. before the christmas thing i had found them pretty good 90% of the time so maybe i might go back to a once a month delivery of the bulky/heavy stuff

Another vote for Ocado. On the rare occasion they are running late the driver always phones ahead.

same as everyone else really…..Ocado, always on time, don’t mess up the food. After that I’d say Asda. Both Tescos and Sainsburys have buggered up and not been that good about it (Tesco took my money despite not delivering and it took me a few calls to get back, Sainsbury’s buggered up a few times). Asda buggered up but were nice about it. They had an agency driver out in the pouring rain who delivered everything half-soaking combined with the wrong food but he was so funny and upbeat despite being soaked I just laughed at his dripping wet face. Then the manager from Asda did ring the next day to apologise to offer recompense to anyone on that round, I hadn’t bothered to complain, he was just checking.

Sainsbury’s often deliver late, which gets you £10 off your next shop. I often took to setting traps for the delivery man so he’d end up being late.

digs very deep pit and places spikes

Tescos are pants. Their weights on the site for veg and meat appear to be an utter lie. They turn up with the hindparts of an entire cow when you order a rump steak.

Never used any of them as i prefer to shop locally and “try not to give any money to The Man™”.

Did you watch that programme? I think I fell a little bit in love with Dave Gorman during that. Does anyone know if he’s single? He posted on here at one point didn’t he?

Yes, Gorman used to post here. Now he owns the site.

I have a good Tesco story. My order included a bottle of Tempranillo and a white Bordeaux. They claimed not to have either and so substituted the red with a big bag of Doritos and the white with a three-pack of sweetcorn. That was some dinner party.

Even more Kafka-esque, the three-pack of sweetcorn which I actually had ordered was unavailable and not substituted with anything.

Tesco is a lot better these days. Ocado is too expensive. Haven’t tried Sainsbury’s, being well aware of the truism that you never do a complete shop at Sainsbury’s. Oh, and did you know that the residents of North Norfolk – aka Chelsea-by-Sea – complained to Tesco about their delivery vans drawing up outside their holiday homes, thus sending a ‘we have no style’ message to their neighbours? Tesco now deliver stuff in unmarked vans.

Did you know that Waitrose, Sainsbury, Marks & Spencer, Tesco, Iceland, Asda – and possibly any other supermarket chain you can think of – share the same fruit and vegetable suppliers? The only difference is purportedly the packaging.

Yup Ocado, every time. Brilliant service, and nice men who deliver and say ‘Good morning – how are you?” then carry ALL the bags upstairs in one go, all by themselves, and refrain from making comments on the contents of your shopping in manner of Tescos dickhead once…”Eerr, lots of booze in here. Having a party of just a bit lonely…? Har Har..” Before fucking off without delivering half my shopping. Idiot.

Re Veg: WTF? Surely not? Waitrose veg is great, Sainsburys veg on the other hand is like plastic food, awful awful awful. I simply cannot for love nor money find an edible avocado in there EVER. You try it. EVER.

They are all pretty reliable, just watch what your ordering. I once ordered enough grapes to feed Monkey World but only one banana!

Second that – having rummaged through all the bags looking for the cheese and discovering just one mini babybel.

Re Veg: WTF? Surely not?

It’s not a con supermarkets obviously broadcast. Besides which, of course, each company’s judgement of how fresh fresh really is differs enormously!

Tesco’s. I just received a lovely email off them informing me that I’ve scored a large bottle of fabric conditioner, kitchen towels and a huge pack of magnolia loo roll for free due to mixed up deliveries yesterday.

I’m a freegan, and not by choice. I find my local Co-op’s bins are easily accessible and full of tasty, slighty out of date treats.

You might like to try these as alternatives to home deliveries by the supermarkets.

http://www.abelandcole.co.uk/Home.aspx

http://www.ensors.org/index.php

All is organic and delivered on set days to selected areas to keep food miles down. Abel and Cole are particularly good and deliver organic vegetables according to season.

Of course, if you actually like your food to have an underlying taste of plastic to compliment the general blandness, this won’t be your cup of organic free range tibetan tea.

explodes in fit of self righteous environmental pomposity

I found Tesco to be fine and always on time, granted their substitutes can be odd sometimes. There website crashes allot though.

Used asda a couple of times once they didn’t turn up at all, I had booze but no food so ended up passing out hungry and very drunk, they cam the next morning after I called, and they gave me some money back. The next time they were 2 hrs late.

I used them again recently though because Tesco site was fucking up and they seem to have got better.
