Things to do in London when you're foreign

I’ve been sent a selection of questions for a US friend of a US friend coming to visit London for 3-4 days at start of April and I just know you wise folk are going to be far more knowledgable than I am, so without further ado:

What are some great italian/japanese/indian/thai restaurants?

What’s your favorite (non ridiculously expensive) restaurant in london?

One great gastropub

What are some good clubs/bars (not so exclusive that it’s hard to get in) – a mix of cheesy and classy?

If you had a friend in town for 3-4 days, what things would you recommend? I’m thinking national portrait gallery, walk around green park, serpentine gallery, tate modern and some other stuff.

Any great plays that you’ve seen lately?

Thanks.

I almost forgot: PLAY EXCITING NEW SPORT when you come to London is not an acceptable answer.

Nor is eating mournflakes.

If they’re coming to visit you, Mark E, you could take them to the Thai place in Tufnell Park (Fortess Road, next to Sainsburys). It’s very nice.

For Japanese, Me Love Sushi is good. I usually get it delivered but they have a restaurant in St John’s Wood.

You could do Tate to Tate on the boat. Or take them to The Barbican to see birds playing guitars.

Gastropub – The Junction Tavern or if you want to be slightly less Camencentric, how about Gordon Ramsey’s pub in Limehouse, The Narrow?

Umm, not been to the theater for an age but The Old Vic might be a good bet, given that they’re bound to have heard of Kevin Spacey.

Other things: Borough Market, Little Venice, Notting Hill, Hampstead Heath, V&A.

Thanks Babb. They’re not coming to visit me.

That Thai place is my absolute fave: Blue Moon Thai Cafe.

Shall pass on the suggestions (yours and cfalconers) in due course…

For Italian restaurant, I’d recommend the River Cafe.
